Your holiday is based in Wells in Somerset, with its historic centre, the magnificent Cathedral, and the unique moated Bishop’s Palace.

 

On this holiday we’ll explore North Somerset including Lynton, once known as the ‘Little Switzerland of England’, Lynton is set in an amazingly beautiful part of the country with colourful heather set against spectacular cliff faces and tumbling waterfalls cascading their way down to the sea.

 

Travel back in time with wonderful trip down memory lane at one of the UK’s most fascinating collection of memorabilia.

DAY ONE - Arrival

We depart from your home with our exclusive door to door pick-up service and travel to Somerset, arriving at The Swan Hotel in Wells with time to relax before dinner.

 

DAY TWO – Minehead & Lynton

Today we will explore the North Somerset coast, travelling firstly to Minehead. Famed as a gateway to Exmoor, Minehead has long attracted visitors to its coastal location.  With beaches to explore, a fishing quarter and historic harbour, as well as a 14^th century church there is plenty to explore.

We will then travel further along the north Somerset coast to Exmoor and Lynton. Set amongst the spectacular scenery of an area known as England’s Little Switzerland, a small Victorian town with a selection of shops, tea-rooms, and cafés. Lynton lies on the northern edge of the West Country peninsula in an area of incomparable beauty. Bracken and heather clad the sweeping hills and valleys nestle between these and spectacular cliffs. Rivers wind their way through deeply wooded valleys to the sea, occasionally interrupted by tumbling waterfalls.

 

DAY THREE – Weston-super-Mare & Oakham Treasures

We’ll travel this morning to Weston-super-Mare, the seaside heart of North Somerset. With attractions, such as the Grand Pier, which fronts the promenade, you can grab a bite to eat and drink and enjoy a stroll along the sea front, or perhaps enjoy Grove Park .

This afternoon we head for Oakham Treasures, one of the largest privately owned museums of retail and farming history in the UK, an amazing and uplifting trip down memory lane.

 

You’ll be fascinated by this vast and unique collection of memorabilia from the last century. There really is something for everybody, from the thousands of items in the historic stores, to the impressive display of vintage tractors and farm equipment.

We’ll then make our way back to our hotel with time to relax before dinner.

 

DAY FOUR – Cheddar Gorge

Today we enjoy a scenic drive through the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural beauty marvelling at the Cheddar Gorge, before visiting the Home of Cheddar Cheese where traditional cheddar cheese is still produced by hand in the village, with raw milk from the local farm.

This afternoon you have time at leisure to explore Wells, explore the Cathedral, it’s a real stunner, and one of the most wonderful Cathedral’s in the UK. It is the first Gothic-style cathedral to be built in the UK and the oldest parts date from 1175.  Walk the historic street if Vicar’s Close Britain’s only complete medieval street. Or visit the Bishop’s Palace and look for the swans that ring a bell for food. You may find the market Square in Wells familiar; that’s because it was used to film the crime caper film Hot Fuzz, if you are a fan of the film you can take a Hot Fuzz tour of the city.

 

DAY FIVE - Departure

After breakfast we leave our hotel and make our way home with comfort stops en route.
