DAY TWO – Ely & Ely Cathedral

Our day out today takes us to Ely. Dating from the eleventh century, the magnificent Ely Cathedral dominates the landscape for miles with its unique Octagon and West Towers. Don’t miss the beautiful exhibits in the Cathedral’s stained-glass museum. Afterwards, there will be free time to explore elegant Ely. Perhaps get an insight into seventeenth century life at the house where Cromwell lived for over a decade, learn the city’s history from prehistoric times at the museum or just relax by the River Great Ouse.

DAY THREE – Burghley House & Stamford

This morning we enjoy a visit to Burghley House, described as England’s greatest Elizabethan house. Burghley is perhaps best-known for its historical collections of important works of art, early tapestries, impressive Japanese ceramics, and sculptures.

Our experienced tour guides will transport you back in time and bring to life the intricate history of the Cecil family and the collections they have built over 450 years of Burghley history.

We then travel the short distance into Stamford, proclaimed by Sir Walter Scott as “the finest stone town in England”. There’s free time to explore the quaint streets and alleyways of this historic and compact town centre that has more than 600 listed buildings of mellow limestone including five medieval churches.

DAY FOUR – The National Stud & Newmarket

This morning we discover Newmarket with an exclusive behind the scenes, 90-minute guided tour by coach and on foot, of the National Stud. The tour explores the beautiful 500-acre stud farm and focus on introducing visitors to the history and purpose of The National Stud as a commercial Thoroughbred breeding operation.
