Visit the outdoor filming locations used in ‘Call the Midwife’ and enjoy a guided tour of the Historic Dockyard, Chatham, from your very own ‘midwife’.  We will also make a visit to the ancient city of Canterbury, a world-famous UNESCO Heritage Site that has been welcoming pilgrims and other visitors since 1170.

Day One

Depart from your own home, join your tour coach and travel south with comfort stops enroute, arriving at your hotel late afternoon, time to relax before dinner.

 

Day Two

Enjoy breakfast before we drive into Maidstone, the county town of Kent, here you have time to obtain lunch and explore the town or you may wish to take a stroll by the River Medway or enjoy a boat trip (not included) or just relax and watch the world go by.

 

Day Three

Our excursion takes us first to Chatham and the famous Historic Naval Dockyard, this vast maritime heritage site offers the visitor so much to see with an abundance of historic buildings dating from 1704, thee warships, dry docks, Royal Dockyard Museum and much more.  This afternoon in the dockyard we enjoy the ‘Call the Midwife’ tour led by the dockyard’s very own ‘Midwife’, we visit areas which have been used as locations for many of the scenes in the popular TV series.  After the tour we enjoy afternoon tea in the Commissioner’s House which was used as a 1950’s style restaurant on the programme.

 

Day Four

Today we travel via Sittingbourne and Faversham to visit the genteel coastal resorts of Whitstable and Herne Bay, continuing along the north coast of Kent to Margate and Broadstairs, Bleak House -  Dickens summer home overlooks the town. From here we continue to historic Canterbury, the city is dominated by the magnificent Cathedral, now a World Heritage Site and the city centre being very compact is best explored on foot.  There is a maze of intriguing side streets with a rich variety of specialist shops and welcoming cafes and pubs in which to relax.

 

Day Five

After breakfast this morning we depart our hotel for our homeward journey with comfort stops enroute.
