This afternoon we visit the Wymondham Heritage Museum, set up by Wymondham Heritage Society to keep the history of Wymondham and its people alive. The museum is packed full of exhibits and displays that tell the story of the people of Wymondham and the surrounding area. The eclectic collection is housed in The Bridewell, a nationally important building that redefined how prisoners should be incarcerated. You’ll step into a recreated dungeon in the basement to see what life was like for a prisoner 200 years ago. The exhibits are displayed in the rooms once occupied by the prison, courthouse and police station. The tearoom provides refreshments including tea, coffee and cakes. The museum shop sells a wide variety of books and pamphlets relating to Wymondham’s history and a range of interesting gift items. We’ll them return to our hotel in Great Yarmouth.

We will then take a cruise on the broads in The Southern Comfort, a double-deck paddle boat purpose built for the Broads. Cruise the river from the beautiful village of Horning, along the river Bure through the village and out to Ranworth Broad and back, passing lovely old, thatched houses, windmills and Norfolk reed beds.
