DAY ONE Arrival
We depart from your home and travel to Kent and our hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.
DAY TWO Scenic Kent Drive, Broadstairs and Whitstable
This morning, we enjoy a scenic drive through the Kent Downs to the coastal town of Broadstairs. The town lies above a harbour with cliffs on either side. It has seven bays of golden sand, which are (from south to north) Dumpton Gap, Louisa Bay, Viking Bay, Stone Bay, Joss Bay, Kingsgate Bay and Botany Bay. North Foreland rises between Stone Bay and Joss Bay. On the cliffs above Kingsgate Bay is Kingsgate Castle, formerly part of the estate of Lord Holland but now converted into private residences.
After our visit we journey to Whitstable. It has traditional charms, a strong arts culture and rich maritime history. Whitstable's main claim to fame is its oysters which remain an intrinsic part of this sea town's character and are celebrated at the Oyster Festival each year in July.
DAY THREE Maidstone and Hever Castle
This morning, we drive into Maidstone where you have time to explore the town and obtain lunch before our afternoon visit to Hever Castle, former childhood home of Anne Boleyn. The story of the Tudors at Hever is depicted in the many portraits around the castle.
DAY FOUR Historic Naval Dockyard Chatham and 'Call the Midwife' Tour
After a leisurely breakfast, we journey the short distance to Chatham and the famous Historic Naval Dockyard. This is the filming location for the popular series 'Call the Midwife'. We will enjoy a themed, guided tour including access to the impressive new 'Call the Midwife' Exhibition. After our tour, you are free to explore the abundance of historic buildings dating from 1704, three warships, dry docks, the Royal Dockyard Museum and much more.
