    DAY ONE – Arrival

    We depart from your home and travel to Durham arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.

    DAY TWO – Hexham and Cream Tea at Slaley Hall Hotel

    This morning we head to the charming town of Hexham, with its historic Abbey. Today is market day! Enjoy the morning exploring and browsing the market stalls at leisure. For those history lovers, why not visit Hexham Old Goal or the Queens Hall Arts Centre.

    This afternoon we venture to the luxurious Slaley Hall Hotel, here we enjoy a delightful cream tea at this Edwardian Mansion House before returning to the hotel.

    DAY THREE – North East Land Sea and Air Museums and South Shields

    This morning we travel to the former RAF Usworth and Sunderland airport site, now known as the Northeast Land Sea and Air Museums. We head back in time at this volunteer ran site to learn all about its collection of military vehicles including a cold war Avro Vulcan B2 Bomber.

    Following our morning visit we head for South Shields, home of the late Catherine Cookson. Here we have free time to obtain lunch and enjoy this seaside town with its beautiful coastline and towering cliffs.

    DAY FOUR – Ushaw and Durham

    This morning we travel to Ushaw, ‘A place where wonder, curiosity and amazement collide’. Here we enjoy entrance to the house, chapels, gardens, café and exhibitions. Ushaw opened in 1808 as a Catholic college but later opened to the public in 2014 as a visitor attraction. Ushaw is rich in art, heritage and architecture – during the visit we can learn all about its history and collections of important artefacts.

    This afternoon we travel to the ancient and historic City of Durham, acclaimed as a World Heritage Site and dominated by the magnificent Norman Cathedral and Castle, high above the River Wear. We have time to explore at leisure.

    DAY FIVE – Departure

    After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
