DAY THREE – The Tenement House and Glasgow Christmas Market

Our day takes us to Glasgow and an interesting visit to The Tenement House. An authentic time capsule of life in early 20th century Glasgow. The Tenement House, situated in Garnethill, may seem like an ordinary middle-class tenement from the late 19th century. However, as soon as you step inside, you are transported to a different era. The four rooms, meticulously restored, appear as if frozen in time, offering a unique window into life in early 20th century Glasgow.

Miss Agnes Toward, a shorthand typist, made this house her home from 1911 until 1965. With great affection and care, she preserved her furniture and belongings, refusing to part with items that most people would have discarded. This extensive personal collection, now a precious time capsule, offers a unique opportunity for present-day visitors to connect and empathise with the past. Moreover, the Tenement House illuminates the experiences of an ‘independent woman’ during that era, a story that is sure to resonate.

The rest of the day is yours to enjoy Glasgow and take in the winter wonderland Christmas Market, before we return to our hotel.

DAY FOUR – Abbotsford House & Gardens and Jedburgh

This morning we’ll visit Jedburgh – known for its associations with Mary Queen of Scots. Up to the 17th century, the location of the town put it at the forefront of many Border battles; today it is a charming place to visit where colourful, renovated buildings flank the Market Place.

We will then continue our day with a visit to Abbotsford House and Gardens. Abbotsford is the extraordinary home of Sir Walter Scott – the 'Great Scott' who popularised tartan, saved the Scottish banknote and rediscovered his country's Crown Jewels. We take a guided a tour here that will take us through the sumptuous interiors and into the beautiful gardens which form three 'outdoor rooms'.
