    DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home, and journey to Devon, arriving at our hotel late afternoon, with time to relax before dinner.

    DAY TWO – Sidmouth

A day to enjoy Sidmouth at your leisure. Sidmouth is a delightfully charming town tucked beneath red cliffs, on the spectacular Jurassic Coast. Explore the beach, discover the historic architecture, or perhaps take a walk in the gardens. There’s always a welcoming atmosphere.

    DAY THREE – Axminster

Today we visit the charming market town of Axminster with its rich tapestry of history, culture and natural beauty. Known for its stunning landscapes and friendly community, Axminster boasts a history that dates back to the Celtic times.

It was recorded in the Domesday Book as " Aixeministra" meaning "monastery by the River Axe." Over the centuries, Axminster developed around the Abbey and its church, which was built by the Saxons. The town became famous in the 18th century when Thomas Whitty began manufacturing Axminster carpets, which were renowned worldwide and even laid in some of the most prestigious buildings across the globe. Despite the factory's closure in 1835, the legacy of Axminster carpets continues to this day.

You can delve into Axminster’s rich history at the Axminster Heritage Centre, in the heart of the town and marvelling at its renowned carpet-making legacy. Why not take refreshments in one of the many culinary outlets, that emphasises Axminster’s locally sourced ingredients and authentic flavours. One of the more unusual aspects of Axminster is its connection to the ancient and mysterious art of bell ringing. The Minster Churchis open to visit and is a significant part of local life.

We will then make a short stop at small fishing village of Axmouth, a village and harbour that forms part of the extensive Jurassic Coast. The village itself is at the upper end of the estuary, about half a mile from the sea.

It was once one of the most important harbours on the coast of south-west England, a role that it lost in the 14th century when a part of the cliff fell into the harbour.

A pleasant village to explore for a little while, before we return to our hotel.

DAY FOUR – Budleigh Salterton and Exeter

This morning we will visit Budleigh Salterton, situatednear the beginning of the Jurassic Coast, the only town in East Devon National Landscapes (previously named East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - AONB).

The town has a 2.5 mile pebble beach, overlooked by stunning red sandstone cliffs, and remains one of Devon’s most unspoilt and charming towns, containing many interesting shopsandother attractions.

We’ll then continue to Exeter where we can enjoy the festive spirit. The Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market is always popular; it’s the ultimate festive experience. Enjoy the mulled wine, artisan stalls and festive treats before we head back to our hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.
