A Passenger’s Experience with Jones Holidays

The following blog is based on a review from a passenger who travelled with Jones Holidays on one of our recent day trips. We love sharing real experiences from our customers, and this one truly captures what made the day so special.

A Truly Superb Afternoon at the Show ✨

From the moment we took our seats, we knew we were in for something special. We were seated in Block 104, just 11 rows from the front, and the view was absolutely superb — close enough to feel part of the action without missing a single detail.

The show itself was nothing short of excellent. Amazing, fabulous, and thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. We were incredibly lucky to see all the couples on the tour, especially as we’d heard that some couples were unable to appear at every performance due to prior commitments. That alone made the experience feel extra special.

The real icing on the cake was seeing Nikita and Layton, who weren’t competing but still treated us to two of their iconic dances. It was an unforgettable highlight and brought the house down.

The professional dancers supported many of the routines, adding even more energy and polish to each performance. The costumes were gorgeous, with some impressively quick costume changes that kept the momentum going throughout the show. Even the judges joined in with the dancing, which added a fun and unexpected element. All in all, it made for a truly superb afternoon of entertainment.

One thing worth noting is that there is quite a lot of walking involved once you’re inside the arena. I don’t think some people realised just how far you may need to go to reach your seats, so it’s something to be mindful of.

Parking was well handled — our driver parked as close as he could — overall, the entire experience felt like excellent value for money.

I would highly recommend this day trip to anyone considering it. A fantastic show, great organisation, and memories that will last long after the final dance.

On 23 January 2026 , our wonderful customers joined us at the ever-popular Metropole Hotel for a weekend packed with laughter, music, dancing, and plenty of special moments—and what a weekend it was!

One of the highlights of Saturday night was the famous Jones charity prize raffle , which raised an incredible £800 for Diabetes UK . We were blown away by the generosity of our guests and incredibly proud to support such an important cause.

The stylishly refurbished and extended Cliff Hotel & Spa is located on a cliff overlooking Poppit Sands and Cardigan Island and enjoys spectacular views. All 76 bedrooms are stylish, decorated to a high standard and equipped with a TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Dinner is served in the Ballroom and there is a stylish, relaxing bar which has unbelievable views. Fantastic leisure facilities include a saltwater hydro spa with treatment rooms (charges apply), a steam room, sauna, hot tub, and gym. The hotel also has a 9-hole golf course. The hotel has a lift, however it does not access some sections of the upper floors.

Important Travel Information – New EU Border Checks (EES)

A quick update for our overseas travellers.

At Jones Holidays, we want every part of your journey to be as smooth and enjoyable as possible — from the moment you book to the moment you arrive home.

In October, a new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) will be introduced, which means there will be a few changes when travelling from the UK into Europe.

Don’t worry — it’s nothing to be concerned about! We’ve put together a simple guide below, so you know what to expect.

Key Dates to Remember
The new EES checks will start rolling out at UK ports this autumn:

From 12 October 2025 – EES checks will begin at Dover Port for coach passengers.
From 1 November 2025 – The same checks will also apply to car, motorbike, and foot passengers.

If you’re travelling on other routes, such as Hull–Rotterdam or Harwich–Hook of Holland, your EES checks will take place on arrival in the EU after you’ve disembarked. Staff will be on hand to guide you through the process.

What the New System Involves

When the EES comes into effect, British passport holders will need to do the following the first time you travel into the EU after launch:

Scan your passport
Have your fingerprints taken
Have a photo taken

This information will then be stored securely for future trips, so you won’t need to repeat it each time you travel.

Our Top Tip for a Smooth Journey

To help things run as smoothly as possible, we recommend checking your passport is valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned return date.

Here’s What to Expect at Dover

From 12 October 2025, all Jones Holidays coaches travelling through Dover will follow the new Coach Processing procedure at Dover Western Docks.

Here’s how it will work:

All coaches will stop at the Western Docks Coach Processing Terminal before sailing.
Passengers will get off the coach and go through EES checks using one of 24 self-service kiosks inside the terminal.
Once everyone is processed and back on board, the coach will be sealed.
It’s very important that the driver doesn’t open the door until the coach has passed Border Control at the Eastern Docks — if the seal is broken, the coach will have to return to be reprocessed.
After sealing, the coach will continue to the Eastern Docks along a designated route.

A new shortcut road to the A20 is also planned, though this won’t be ready straight away. The procedure will still go ahead from 12 October 2025, even if all EES technology isn’t yet fully rolled out.

We’re pleased to announce that from Tuesday, 1st of July 2025 , Jones Holidays will be supporting NEWCIS (North East Wales Carers Information Service), a local charity that supports carers across Flintshire, Denbighshire, and Wrexham .

NEWCIS currently supports over 13,000 carers , many of whom dedicate their time to looking after others. We know how important it is for carers to take a break, recharge, and enjoy time for themselves — and we want to help make that a little easier.

From July, carers registered with NEWCIS will be able to access exclusive discounts on our day trips and UK tours (excluding overseas holidays). It’s our way of saying thank you and giving something back to those who give so much.

Held this year from the 24th to the 26th of January 2025, this event was absolutely buzzing with excitement, offering an unforgettable weekend for both long-standing Jones customers and first-timers alike.

Here's why it was the talk of the town—and why you should join our next one!

We asked our customers to tell us what they thought of it, and thanks goes to Kay Parry and Pam Bolton for their kind feedback and encouraging thoughts on a special event.

Here’s what they had to say…

A Warm Welcome to Begin the Journey

From the moment we were picked up it was seamless, from the mini-bus transfers to the main coach, the experience was nothing short of smooth and well-organised.

A delightful stop in Bakewell for lunch was the perfect opportunity to relax and take in the charming scenery.

And the venue? Incredible! Guests were greeted by the Jones staff and complimentary tea and coffee, and the hotel, had everything to suit everyone’s needs—spacious rooms, walk-in showers, and all the comfort you could ask for.

Highlights of the Party

Our weekend was packed with activities and surprises that had everyone talking and smiling. Whether you love a bit of friendly competition at the bingo, to dancing the night away, there was something for everyone, and we had a wonderful time.

�� Unforgettable Moments ��

Bingo Fun – Laughter echoed through the room as we revelled in the joy (and suspense!) of the game.
Entertainment and Dancing – Live music and the infamous Jones staff joining the dance floor made for an incredibly lively atmosphere. Seeing the drivers busting their moves was a true highlight!
A Stunning Venue – The Allington Suite at The Barn Hotel was dressed to impress and gave us all the perfect backdrop for an evening of elegance and celebration.

�� Surprises and Treats ��

Wow! We were blown away by the generosity of the raffle—a free holiday for 2, an incredible prize, that we all wanted to win ��, sadly we did not. ☹

Add in all the other lovely prizes, and a gift of a day trip for everyone, and even wine on the tables, it’s no surprise everyone left at the end of the weekend with smiles on their faces.

�� Afternoon Tea Delights ��

We were surprised on Saturday afternoon with a perfect afternoon tea. There were plenty of options to cater for all tastes, but we particularly enjoyed the delicious lemon drizzle cake.

��Dining Excellence ��

When it comes to food, we were not disappointed, from the delicious lamb to the Sunday carvery, each meal received glowing reviews from everyone. And the hotel staff were attentive and pleasant, making the experience even better.

☕ Building Connections Over Coffee (and Cake!) ��

For us and many others, the Party Break offered more than just relaxation—it was a chance to build connections, share travel stories, and chat face-to-face with Jones staff, and make new friends.

Whether over a slice of cake at afternoon tea or during quieter moments, we enjoyed some meaningful conversations and the chance to swap holiday recommendations with each other, and plan where we’d meet up again.

What sets the Jones Holidays Party Break apart is the sense of community it brings. It’s not just about the events, surprises, and food—it’s about feeling part of something special.

I first stumbled across it on a Robson Green programme and was instantly captivated. Intrigued? Read on to uncover why Kynren should be at the top of your travel list.

An Unforgettable Experience

Kynren is not just a show; it’s an immersive experience that takes you on a breathtaking 2,000-year journey through history. Set against the stunning backdrop of Bishop Auckland, the show brings history to life in ways you could never imagine. One of my favourite moments was when a house dramatically turned to reveal the legendary scene where Arthur pulls the sword from the stone to become a knight of the round table. With horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and geese, plus a cast of about one thousand performers of all ages, the spectacle is nothing short of epic.

But don't worry—I'm not here to spoil all the surprises; this is something you truly have to witness in person to appreciate fully. Last Saturday, on November 26, 2023, we had a blast at Venue Cymru, where we met so many wonderful people who visited our stand and grabbed our latest Summer 2024 brochure.

This year, the fair was held in the main arena, featuring incredible stalls with all your favourite Christmas goodies and beautifully crafted products. There were also traditional tombolas, raffles, and games to enjoy. The atmosphere was truly enchanting, thanks to the Llandudno U3A Choir's mesmerizing voices. And to make it even more special, Mother Goose from Theatr Colwyn entertained the children, while Santa himself made a surprise appearance.

St David's Hospice is an exceptional charity that provides palliative care to patients and their families facing life-limiting illnesses. They organise various fun events throughout the year, which you can find on their website at www.stdavidshospice.org.uk.

We at Jones Holidays are absolutely delighted to be supporting the incredible Choirs for Good fundraising concert at St Paul's Church in Craig y Don on the 20th December 2023, all in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance.

As the first time that we've sponsored this event, we're truly honoured to be playing a small part in helping to raise money for such a worthy cause. After all, the Wales Air Ambulance provides vital, lifesaving services to those in need, and we feel privileged to be able to support them in any way that we can.

For those who may not be familiar with the Choirs for Good concert, it's a truly special event that brings together some of the most talented choirs and musicians for a wonderful evening of music from traditional to popular, classical to swing and songs from the musicals with performances from: Choirs For Good Conwy, The Quaynotes Swing Jazz Quintet and Vocal Duo - Arthur and Angharad.

Not only does the concert offer a fantastic evening of entertainment for all who attend, but it also serves as an opportunity to raise funds for the Wales Air Ambulance , which relies on donations to continue providing its crucial services.

Emily Williams Earns D1 Licence in Less Than a Year!

Emily Williams, a 35-year-old driver based in North Wales, has achieved a major milestone in her career at Alpine Travel. In just under 12 months, she has successfully passed the D1 Licence test with flying colours.

Starting out as a feeder driver in 2022, Emily offered door-to-door pick-up services for passengers on Alpine's Jones Holidays products. She not only provided exceptional care and attention to her passengers but also had the ambition to learn how to drive larger vehicles in the Alpine fleet.

Now, with her newly acquired D1 Licence, Emily can drive midi coaches with up to 16 seats. This opens a world of opportunities for her, including driving not just feeder vehicles but also private groups and customers who hire larger vehicles from Alpine Travel.

Jon Hughes, the Traffic Manager at Alpine, expressed his delight for Emily's achievement and emphasised her professionalism and skill in the short time she has been with the company. He sees a bright future ahead for her. Emily herself expressed her satisfaction with her qualification and how Alpine's commitment to employee training and development has contributed to her success.

Jones Holidays, part of Alpine Travel, is pleased to announce the relocation of its Flint Travel Shop to 11, Church Street, Flint. Jones Holidays’ Flint Travel shop has been located on Chester Road, Flint for many years, and the Jones brand itself has been a strong aspect of life in Flintshire for over 100 years.

Our highly experienced travel representatives have taken up their new position on the high street location this week, and Jones Holidays are delighted to be able to offer their customers an in-person experience. Beverley Cooke, Head of Sales and Marketing at Alpine Travel commented; ‘While online bookings are a great way to offer convenience to many, the new high street shop is the perfect location to ensure that we can offer our customers the opportunity to book in person with our sales team - building relationships with customers is an important aspect of Jones Holidays.’

The new high street location is not the only exciting news from Jones Holidays. The company has also expanded its home pick-up area, increasing its home pick-up routes to now include Cheshire East, North Shropshire, and Warrington. This news follows the successful launch of the Jones Holidays Travel Shop in Craig y Don, Llandudno in 2021, and this new move of the Flint Travel Shop further demonstrates the continued success of Jones Holidays in North Wales.

The relocation of the Flint Travel Shop to Church Street, Flint is a great opportunity for Jones Holidays to provide an even better service to its customers. With the increased convenience of location and the expansion of the home pick-up area, Jones Holidays is sure to continue to be a leader in the North Wales travel industry.
